Petite Sirah

Franse blauwe druif die ook bekend is onder de benaming durif, naar de ontdekker ervan, François Durif. Petite sirah is een natuurlijke kruising tussen syrah en peloursin. De kleine druifjes van petite sirah komen van de peloursin, terwijl de smaken van zwart fruit, peper, chocola en zoethout in de richting van syrah wijzen. Ook kenmerkend voor deze druif zijn hoge zuren en veel tannine. In zijn geboorteland Frankrijk is petite sirah tegenwoordig niet meer te vinden: ruim 90% van de wereldaanplant staat in Californië.

De petite sirah (ook wel durif) is een relatief mysterieuze, blauwe druif die je vooral veel aantreft in Californië. Ook bij Ridge is het druivenras volop te vinden. Op Lytton Springs zijn de oudste stokken petite sirah aangeplant in 1901, de jongste in 2008.
